Hooked On is one of my favorite expressions in horsemanship. It is often the very first connection that begins between a human and their horse. I enjoy watching skilled horsemen start colts. I had the pleasure of watching and learning from one of the best horsemen around, Peter Campbell, who passed away a few years back. He taught me that any horse can benefit from these exercises. He helped me with one of my personal horses that was troubled and difficult. The change that evolved as he helped me direct my horse in the small pen was fast and effective. My boy Hooked On to me and gave me his trust. It was a significant change. As you might guess Hooked On is a painting of my horse Joe. The change that took place on that one afternoon allowed us to travel many happy miles together. Joe passed away in late 2018. We had a great partnership and I will always treasure those rides and the important lessons I learned as his human partner.
